FDM 3D Printing Service
What is Fused Deposition Modelling FDM 3D Printing?
Fused Deposition Modelling (or) FDM 3D Printing process has a place with the material extrusion family. In FDM, an item is produced by extruding molten plastic and stacking them layer by layer. The materials which are widely used in FDM are thermo plastics in the form of spools.
FDM is the most generally utilized 3D Printing technology. It has a huge base of 3D printers all around the world and is regularly the main 3D printing technology which an individual can get when he/she is getting started with 3D printing.
Since FDM 3D printers are available in various form ranging from DIY to Industry grade, FDM 3D Printing is very much cost effective than other types of 3D printing technology. There are various considerations, preparations and precautions which needs to be kept in mind while working with FDM 3D printing technology.
How Fused Deposition Modelling FDM 3D Printing Work?
A Spool of thermo plastic generally PLA or ABS with 1.75mm (or) 2.8mm diameter wire is used as the raw material. A Nozzle with 0.4mm diameter generally, is fixed to a hot end where the nozzle is heated up to the motel temperature of the raw material.
The nozzle is capable of moving in X Y direction with the help of stepper motors and timing belts and the whole nozzle unit moves in the Z direction with stepper motor and screw rods. Once the nozzle is heated to the desired temperature, the raw material is fed in to the nozzle by a stepper motor and gears.
The material with 1.75mm diameter melts and is extruded through the 0.4mm nozzle. With the help of stepper motors the nozzle moves around in X Y direction and extruding the material at the same time in the desired profile. Once one layer is completely done, the nozzle moves one step in Z direction and the process repeats until the final part is produced.
